Kennel Attendant for Animal Welfare

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Kennel Attendant to join our team at Rocket Dog Rescue, an urban sanctuary in Oakland. The primary responsibilities of this role include providing quality care for the animals in our facility, ensuring a safe, clean, and positive atmosphere for both the animals and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:- Animal Care: Clean and disinfect cages, runs, and common areas; replenish food and water; provide grooming services, such as bathing.
- Basic Healthcare: Administer medications and treatments as needed, monitor for signs of illness or injury, and report any concerns to management.
- Exercise and Play: Ensure all animals, particularly dogs, receive appropriate physical activity and social interaction.
- Intake and Customer Relations: Greet visitors, assist with animal intakes, and provide excellent customer service. Process intakes, including weighing, deworming, and vaccinating animals.
- Observation and Reporting: Monitor animal behavior, particularly sick or scared animals, and report any issues promptly.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience: Prior experience working with animals, either professionally or personally, is highly valued. Kennel management experience is a plus.
- Skills: Patience, persistence, and an ability to anticipate and appropriately respond to animal needs. Physical stamina and confidence to handle active animals and work in a noisy environment.
- Additional Requirements: Ability to calmly handle emotionally challenging situations, such as working with injured or fearful animals. Must be comfortable working around barking dogs and occasional unpleasant smells.
Kennel attendants will be exposed to loud environments, odors, and cleaning animal waste. The role involves physical work such as cleaning, walking dogs, and caring for animals. Candidate must be able to work unaffected by noise, diverse personalities, and the nature of the work.
Position Details:- Schedule: Part-time, 8 AM–12 PM and/or 5 PM–9 PM, up to 5 days a week.
