Position: Kindergarten Educator, Ola Program (Portuguese/English)
About Cambridge Public Schools:
Cambridge Public Schools is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive community that values parental engagement both inside and outside the classroom. Our curriculum is tailored to meet the interests, strengths, needs, and unique learning styles of each child. Educators are expected to understand and enhance the abilities of every individual child as well as the collective classroom environment. Our Ola Program is a two-way bilingual initiative, providing instruction in both English and Portuguese. The day is divided equally between English and Portuguese instruction, with students learning in either single or occasionally mixed-grade cohorts. This program aims to develop students' bilingual and bicultural competencies.
The Role:
Collaborating with the kindergarten teaching team and Ola Program staff, the Kindergarten Educator will create a stimulating environment that encourages children to make choices and take responsibility for their learning journey. The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellence in various areas, including bilingual/bicultural proficiency, literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies development. The educator will employ inclusive teaching strategies, utilize diverse learning approaches, and implement activity-centered projects while continuously developing a multicultural curriculum. Responsibilities include:
- Designing creative methods to foster basic skills in partnership with our Literacy and Math Coach.
- Establishing a collaborative classroom atmosphere that promotes teamwork among students.
- Coordinating with special education staff to ensure the inclusion of students with special needs in the general education setting.
- Engaging in collaborative curriculum planning with fellow educators.
- Maintaining comprehensive records of each child's academic, social, and emotional progress.
In all interactions, the educator will cultivate a safe and nurturing environment, providing clear expectations and opportunities for children to engage in classroom activities.
Your Qualifications:
As the prospective Kindergarten Educator, you will ideally possess many of the following attributes and qualifications:
- A Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
- Fluency in Portuguese is essential.
- Experience working with elementary-aged children, particularly in urban and multicultural settings.
- A respectful understanding of the diverse developmental trajectories of children.
- Capability to engage with children in both small and large group settings within an activity-based classroom.
- Massachusetts certification in Elementary Education is required.
Cambridge Public Schools is committed to health and safety protocols. Therefore, all new hires will be required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 as a condition of employment.
Application Process:
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a resume and a thoughtful cover letter that outlines how their skills, experiences, and commitment to equity in education align with the qualifications for this position.
At Cambridge Public Schools, we embrace a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds, recognizing that a team reflective of various identities enhances our ability to serve our communities effectively. We welcome applicants to bring their authentic selves to our educational environment.
