Position Overview

Under the general supervision of the College President, the Senior Vice President of Student Affairs offers strategic leadership and oversight for all Student Affairs initiatives, encompassing program planning, budget management, staff recruitment, and accountability for all designated programs.

Key Responsibilities

The Senior Vice President of Student Affairs directly oversees all student affairs administrators, including Student Development, Support Services, Equity Programs, Pathways, and Counseling. This role is pivotal in collaboratively developing, articulating, and advocating for the vision, values, mission, and objectives of Student Affairs within the college, district, and broader community.


Collaboration with other vice presidents across various operational areas is essential to support the planning and execution of college-wide programs and initiatives, including institutional redesign efforts aimed at guided pathways reform.


Engagement with colleagues throughout the Los Rios Community College District is crucial for evaluating district regulations, policies, and procedures that ensure effective implementation and accountability.

  • Utilizing technology to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of student services operations.
  • Fostering collaborative relationships across various student services and instructional departments, as well as with other community stakeholders.
  • Assessing program effectiveness, setting and implementing goals, streamlining workflows, and ensuring accountability while successfully completing projects.
  • Advancing student success and promoting diversity.
  • Supporting staff professional development and training.
  • Upholding respect and civility within the workplace and academic community.
  • Facilitating positive organizational change while being mindful of the diverse experiences of others.


Typical Duties

Typical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Recognizing the significant impact of race, culture, and language on student success, and striving to create culturally competent and linguistically appropriate services for all students.
  • Overseeing Student Affairs functions at the main campus and outreach centers, including counseling, matriculation, financial aid, and various support programs.
  • Playing a senior role in implementing and evaluating significant institutional redesign initiatives.
  • Anticipating and addressing the evolving needs of students and the community, as well as changing demographics.
  • Collaborating with institutional research and instructional leaders to foster innovation through a culture of inquiry and data-driven decision-making.
  • Ensuring compliance with federal and state laws, as well as district and college policies regarding student services categorical programs.
  • Managing resource assessment, planning, budgeting, and allocation processes.
  • Advocating for the community college mission and the needs of all students as integral to student success.
  • Providing supervision, evaluation, and professional development for assigned staff, and advising the College President on personnel matters.
  • Participating in the President's Cabinet and assisting in outreach and community engagement efforts.
  • Serving on various college, district, and state committees as required.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • A master's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant training, internship, or leadership experience related to the administrative role.
  • An equity-minded approach with sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds of community college students, including those with disabilities.
