Position Overview:
Collaborate with Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) teams and project personnel to ensure adherence to company policies, EH&S programs, and regulatory standards on a designated construction site. Facilitate training on safe operational practices to inform and guide project teams regarding the management of environmental and hazardous materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and enforce Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) protocols on a specific construction project, aligned with safety staffing requirements as outlined by Headquarters (HQ) EH&S policy.
  • Oversee time and resource management while providing safety leadership to the assigned project.
  • Evaluate project safety practices and identify potential safety hazards, developing and implementing strategies to mitigate risks and enhance safety awareness among project teams.
  • Communicate necessary improvements to project leadership and teams, ensuring compliance with project-specific safety standards and best practices.
  • Analyze site safety trends and contribute to reducing Project Incident Rates by achieving established Business Unit (BU) objectives, aiming for zero regulatory citations.
  • Create tailored training programs for project-specific needs to educate project management, employees, subcontractors, and Turner Trade personnel on EH&S policies and safe work practices.
  • Encourage adherence to safe work practices and conditions in line with company and EH&S policies, as well as Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with project staff and subcontractor Safety Representatives.
  • Develop and implement the project Safety Program and associated policies and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe practices and conditions, engaging with the project team to initiate immediate corrective actions as per Turner, Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Establish an accountability framework for the project team to ensure proactive planning for activities and tasks involving subcontractors and trades.
  • Review subcontractor safety programs for completeness and compliance with company and EH&S policies, as well as Federal, State, and Local regulations.
  • Evaluate the quality of Pre-Task Plans (PTPs) for subcontractors based on contractual obligations.
  • Conduct Preconstruction planning meetings with subcontractors to review site safety programs and job hazard analyses, establishing risk mitigation strategies.
  • Generate safety action items for Preconstruction meetings and verify subcontractor training compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Implement an effective orientation program for new employees, documenting participation.
  • Collaborate with project leadership to create project-specific safety reports, assess metrics, and recommend improvements.
  • Ensure timely documentation of subcontractors' toolbox safety meetings.
  • Conduct and review safety audits for the project team, assess corrective actions, and report violations or unsafe practices for prompt resolution.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of relevant construction safety experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Certification as a Construction Health Safety Technician (CHST) is required or must be obtained within 2 years of appointment.
  • Completion of OSHA 30-hour training and maintenance of current First Aid/CPR/BBP and AED certifications.
  • Familiarity with Federal, State, and local Environmental Health & Safety regulations.
  • Proficient understanding and application of safety and environmental principles and techniques.
  • Ability to identify safety-related exposures and lead the implementation of corrective measures.
  • Knowledge of general construction operations.
  • Demonstrated leadership, teamwork, and interpersonal skills to build effective teams and professional relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with effective presentation abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Analytical thinking, sound judgment, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Travel may be required, with access to reliable transportation necessary.
