Accounting and Financial Services Specialist

Life University is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accounting and Financial Services Specialist to join our Finance Department. As an Assistant Controller, you will play a critical role in supporting our daily operations and special assignments using Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager to coordinate daily accounting activities in payroll, accounts payable, and general accounting as needed.
  • Primary administrator of the online banking function, including stop payments, wire transfers, positive pay, and daily activity reports.
  • Oversee projects such as monthly and annual close-out and preparation of documentation for annual audits.
  • Assist the Controller with all audits and ensure University compliance with federal, state, and regulatory requirements and policies.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and annual financial reports and other related reports.
  • Assist with cash management of federal, state, and private financial aid programs.
  • Perform analysis on various accounts and business activities as assigned by the Controller.
  • Serve as liaison with Finance and participate as an active member of the Retirement Plan Committee.
  • Oversee the Payroll processing function.
  • Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounting.
  • Considerable knowledge of fund accounting principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact well with the University community.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Demonstrate personal and professional integrity.
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential employee information.
  • Experience in development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Team building and supervisory skills; organizational and staff development skills.
  • Able to prioritize and manage multiple projects, adhering to strict timelines.
  • High degree of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Computer skills: Microsoft Office applications.
