About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Development Director to join our team at The Brookings Institution. As a key member of our development team, you will be responsible for building and maintaining relationships with corporate donors, identifying and qualifying new prospects, and developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to secure funding for our Economic Studies program.



Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will have a strong track record of fundraising and prospect research, with a focus on corporate donors. They will be responsible for:


  • Developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy for corporate fundraising, including identifying and qualifying new prospects and developing and executing customized outreach and stewardship plans.
  • Managing a portfolio of 30-50 current and prospective corporate funders, including creating and executing proposals and renewal plans, and tracking and sending pledge reminders and invoices.
  • Working closely with program staff and scholars to understand their fundraising needs and develop and implement plans to secure funding.
  • Performing prospect research, including utilizing research resources to conduct research, prepare and provide biographical and financial profiles and reports on potential and identified individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with other program development staff and coordinating on prospects as needed.


Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:


  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of eight years of professional and/or related experience.
  • Excellent communication, organization, database, and spreadsheet skills, including the ability to enter and manipulate data.
  • Interest in public policy, economics, and finance, and a demonstrated experience successfully raising gifts of $50,000+ in a non-profit environment.
  • Experience planning high-level meetings and coordinating event logistics, as well as working successfully with top-level executives in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, and the ability to research information and compile it into a concise briefing.
  • A background in a research or academic setting is strongly preferred.
