General Function

Reporting to and in partnership with the Chief Program Officer (CPO), the Director of Development will lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising program that includes individual and corporate giving planned giving and special events. Under limited supervision and in close collaboration with the corporate growth, program development, workforce, finance, and marketing and communications teams, the Director of Development provides leadership and management to achieve annual fundraising goals aligned with the strategic plan and programmatic priorities. The Director of Development is also responsible for building and managing the operations to ensure all aspects of fundraising are accurate, effective and ensure a positive donor experience.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute CFP Board’s annual and long-term fundraising strategies.
  • In collaboration with CPO, create and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan that establishes fundraising goals for each donor segment (individuals and corporations/firms), as well as clear prospect pipelines, timelines, “moves management” strategies and workplans to meet the goals.
  • Cultivate and steward corporate and individual donors and prospects, independently and in partnership with the executive team, volunteer leadership and program, corporate growth, finance and research staff. Cultivation and stewardship will occur in person, virtually and through mail and online communications.
  • Track donor engagement and retention, analyze revenue streams and make data-driven decisions to help the organization achieve its fundraising goals.
  • Manage and coordinate a cultivation, stewardship and solicitation program that includes one-on-one meetings, cultivation events, regular communications and reports and other initiatives to engage and inform current and prospective donors.
  • Collaborate with the Center’s Managing Director of Workforce, Managing Director of Program Development, Managing Director of Corporate Growth, Managing Director of Research and Director of Finance on proposals and donor engagement with financial services corporations and individual donors. individuals.
  • Develop, implement and oversee systems and infrastructure to support fundraising management and reporting, including timely donor acknowledgements, tracking commitments and maintaining a list of funded recognition opportunities and available programmatic funding opportunities. Works closely and ensures strong alignment with Finance and IT.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to develop and execute effective donor communications and marketing materials. This includes developing a compelling message that resonates with potential donors, creating donor recognition programs and crafting targeted appeals.
  • Develop effective fundraising appeals, acknowledgement letters, funder reports and stewardship reports, both print and electronic.
  • Prepare briefing materials for Executive Leadership Team (ELT) members and other staff in advance of donor meetings or solicitations.
  • Ensure that funding proposals and support case materials for corporate and individual development meet highest standards and are compelling, clear and impact focused.
  • Prepare and recommend annual development budget, monitors budget performance, operates within budget guidelines, and reports variances.
  • In partnership with the CPO, establishes a shared culture of philanthropy across the organization.
  • Facilitate the audit process with CFP Board Finance staff.
  • Manage the Sr. Account Manager, Development and Corporate Relations.
  • Serve as a liaison to the volunteer Development Advisory Committee.

Background/Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required
  • Professional fundraising certification preferred
  • 10 plus years of progressively responsible and successful fundraising experience, which met or exceeded annual goals, preferably in a foundation, non-profit or profession-based association
  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, annual goal setting, development and

implementation of effective fundraising programs and events, as well as evaluation and feedback processes.

  • Demonstrated skills in developing and executing successful fundraising plans and campaigns.
  • Successful track record of developing, expanding and cultivating donor relationships over time.
  • Experience with planned giving fundraising strategies and programs.
  • Skilled budget manager, including development of annual revenue and expense goals, monitoring and reporting variances, and compliance requirements for finance audit purposes.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in identifying and matching corporate and individual donors/funders with organization goals and priorities for funding.
  • Experience in prospect research, identification, and development, both corporate and individual, as well as relationship building.
  • Demonstrated skills in developing creative and engaging recognition for donors.
  • Demonstrated skills, strategies, and approaches for building and cultivating strong donor relationships.
  • Highly effective communication skills, verbal and written, for a variety of internal and external audiences; skilled at developing and delivering persuasive and successful proposals and presentations to complex groups, corporate executives, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate the organization’s needs and link to the funder’s priorities and goals.
  • Well-developed, effective interpersonal skills and presence, which demonstrates the ability to communicate and connect with a diverse and broad range of people from CEO’s and executives of major corporations to individuals.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations for fundraising activities by IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and ethical practices, including working knowledge of estate planning and giving legal requirements.

This position works on programs which are part of the 501 (c)(3).

This position is based in the Washington D.C. office and works a hybrid schedule which could be changed at any time.

CFP Board is an Equal Opportunity Employer. The applicable starting annual base salary is anticipated to be in the range of $145,000 to $160,000. In addition to base salary, total compensation includes incentive compensation for which employees are eligible based on completion of individual goals.
