Job Overview

Position Summary

The HR Specialist focusing on Leave of Absence is tasked with offering expert guidance and support to both management and staff regarding matters related to employee leave. This role is essential in ensuring that all leave policies, including FMLA and other absence programs, are implemented fairly and consistently while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.


Educational Requirements: A minimum of an associate degree in business, human resources, or a related discipline is required.

Licensure: No specific licensure is required.

Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in human resources, preferably in a non-entry level capacity. Additional training in HR, certification, and relevant knowledge is advantageous.


Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the FMLA process and related leave programs, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.
  • Enhances employee understanding of leave options through regular communication and information dissemination.
  • Provides necessary FMLA documentation in accordance with Department of Labor guidelines and maintains accurate records.
  • Monitors intermittent leave requests and liaises with both managers and employees regarding these matters.
  • Coordinates the submission of FMLA documentation to external providers and ensures timely follow-up.
  • Tracks employee FMLA hours and eligibility, assisting management with time entry in payroll systems.
  • Facilitates accommodation requests linked to leaves of absence.
  • Conducts regular audits to ensure compliance with HR regulations at the state, federal, and local levels.
  • Assists in the onboarding process for new hires, collaborating with various departments to ensure a seamless experience.
  • Maintains confidentiality and integrity of HR files and records.
  • Provides administrative support to the HR department, ensuring compliant record-keeping practices.
  • Performs audits of HR documentation to ensure all required materials are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Addresses common inquiries from employees regarding policies, benefits, and hiring processes, escalating complex issues as necessary.
  • Offers support to the administration office as needed.
  • Demonstrates a comprehensive understanding of HR policies and procedures.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned.
