Job Summary

The Director of Nursing at Williamsburg Landing is responsible for overseeing the care of all residents, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and establishing departmental performance goals. This role requires a strong understanding of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices, as well as knowledge of state and federal regulations related to nursing homes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain nursing service objectives, standards of practice, policies, and procedures in collaboration with the Health Care Administrator and the facility Medical Director.
  • Establish work processes and ensure adequate resources to provide quality care to residents.
  • Recruit, interview, and evaluate staff, and support the Shift Supervisors and Nurse Educator in their efforts to coordinate the onboarding process.
  • Coordinate the processing of worker's compensation matters and ensure timely and accurate submission to Talent Management.
  • Investigate areas of opportunity identified through We Care Connect and employee Stay Interviews, and respond to findings.
  • Round daily on resident floors to observe nursing practices and ensure resident satisfaction, and report findings to the Health Care Administrator.
  • Assist in the development of the annual departmental operating and capital budgets.
  • Track employee turnover and implement initiatives to reduce it.
  • Represent resident interests in multi-disciplinary meetings, ensuring care plans are maintained through collaboration with Therapy, Activities, Social Work, and physicians.
  • Develop and conduct a formalized Quality Assurance Performance Improvement (QAPI) program under the direction of the Health Care Administrator and in coordination with the Shift Supervisors.
  • Recommend and complete plans of correction for past non-compliance scenarios, and involve CNAs and Nurses in Action Plans.
  • Lead weekly quality meetings to address concerns regarding resident weights, readmissions, wounds, behaviors, falls, usage of antipsychotic medication, and pain levels, and lead a formal QAPI action plan process if a concern is raised.
  • Perform audits of medical records, identifying procedural deficiencies and ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken, and ensure that the appropriate documentation is present for skilled residents to ensure HRC receives payment for services rendered.
  • Take the lead with the Health Care Administrator and Shift Supervisors, along with Security and/or local law enforcement, in investigations of elder abuse, neglect, exploitation, and misappropriation.
  • Assume on-call duty in a regular rotation and assign the on-call schedule to ensure 24-hour coverage by nursing administration.
  • Maintain positive interactions with residents, guests, and other Williamsburg Landing employees, and monitor resident surveys to improve residents' perception of service quality.
  • Coordinate and communicate with the Shift Supervisors to ensure staff receives all required trainings and encourages participation in professional development opportunities.
  • Hold regular meetings with the Medical Director and other providers to discuss areas of opportunity and clinical initiatives.
  • Conduct meetings at least monthly with nursing team members to discuss areas of opportunity and updates in community events.
  • Oversee the completion of annual performance evaluations with the Shift Supervisors for all nursing team members, and ensure that these reviews are completed on time.
  • Hold nursing team accountable for essential responsibilities and issue timely Employee Disciplinary Notices (EDNs) when necessary.
  • Coordinate care provided by contracted providers, such as the Wound Physician, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, Podiatrist, and Dentist, and ensure documentation from visits is uploaded into the EMR.
  • Input quality data into the monthly COR spreadsheet and ensure that reporting managers input data by the due date, and lead the COR call.
  • Review the CASPER quality reports on a monthly basis with the MDS Coordinator for areas of opportunity, and create a QAPI action plan if identified.
  • Coordinate with the MDS representative to ensure timely transmission of the MDSs.
  • Participate in committees as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Current Commonwealth of Virginia Registered Nurse licensure is required, with a minimum of two (2) years' experience in long-term care facility supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Comprehensive knowledge of geriatric nursing standards, principles, and practices; thorough practical knowledge of state and federal regulations related to nursing homes; knowledge of Medicare regulations; comprehensive knowledge of resident care standards, psychosocial dimension of gerontology, and medical records.
