Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Grants Compliance Accountant to support our mission by working closely with our departments to ensure financial operations run smoothly. As a member of our Finance and Administration Team, you will report to our Controller and be based in our New Haven office.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in accounting and finance, preferably in a non-profit or government organization. They will be responsible for ensuring that private, corporate, and public sector grant and contract funds are spent according to project and grantor requirements.

This role involves close collaboration with project managers and development staff to maintain accurate financial records, reports, contracts, and other documentation. You will also manage the financial aspects of our grants, including budgeting, tracking expenses, invoicing, and ensuring compliance with grant financial reporting requirements.

Main Responsibilities
  • Maintain a complete listing of available designated funds by program reconciled to general ledger balances
  • Ensure set up of budget in QuickBooks and other financial software to enable accurate tracking of grantor funding
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and invoicing per contractual and grant terms in accordance with accounting standards
  • Actively manage project-specific items including deferred revenue, open accounts receivables and pledges, and expenses
  • Review project costs, budgets and forecasts, communicate substantial budget variances

Our ideal candidate has excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, experience with financial analysis and accounting, federal, state, or foundation grants management and compliance experience, and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
