Save the Sound, Inc. is a dynamic organization that protects and preserves the Long Island Sound region's environment. We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Compliance Specialist to support our mission by working closely with various departments to ensure financial operations run smoothly.

The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a similar-sized organization. A bachelor's degree in accounting or finance is required. The successful Environmental Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring private, corporate, and public sector grant and contract funds are spent according to project and grantor requirements.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $80,000 per year, commensurate with skills and experience. Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain complete listings of available designated funds by program reconciled to general ledger balances
  • Ensure set up of budget in QuickBooks and other financial software to enable accurate tracking of grantor funding
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition and invoicing per contractual and grant terms in accordance with accounting standards
  • Actively manage project-specific items including deferred revenue, open accounts receivables and pledges, and expenses
  • Review project costs, budgets, and forecasts, communicate substantial budget variances
  • Participate in monthly financial project review meetings to discuss project spend, activity updates, and potential variances or pending transactions
