Description

Stantec Consulting International Ltd. is seeking a dedicated Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our Energy and Resources team. If you are passionate about tackling complex water and natural resource challenges globally and thrive in a collaborative environment, we want to hear from you.

Role Overview

The ideal candidate will engage in a variety of intricate tasks related to dam and hydroelectric projects, water conveyance tunnels, and resource management initiatives for both domestic and international clients.

You will collaborate with a diverse team of engineers and geologists, applying engineering and geological principles to address project challenges effectively. The ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team is essential, as is the capacity to employ critical thinking to devise tailored solutions.

Key Responsibilities

- Adhere to safety protocols and company standards while planning and executing tasks in both office and field settings.
- Collaborate with engineers, geologists, and other specialists to tackle project challenges and perform necessary design calculations.
- Mentor junior staff and oversee projects with support from fellow engineers or geologists.
- Conduct feasibility studies through research, including desktop studies and field reconnaissance, to establish a geological and geotechnical foundation for ongoing projects.
- Plan and execute field investigation programs.
- Perform geological mapping to support various field initiatives.
- Conduct field inspections and participate in exploration and testing programs, including the collection and analysis of soil and rock properties.
- Provide field leadership during investigation or construction phases, coordinating with supporting staff or subcontractors.
- Contribute to all project phases, including design, inspection, and construction of dams, tunnels, foundations, and earth-retaining structures.
- Evaluate subsurface conditions by reviewing field maps, logs, and test data, and develop parameters for technical analyses.
- Utilize geotechnical analysis software such as DIPS, UNWEDGE, SWEDGE, Phase2, SEEP/W, and SLOPE/W.
- Familiarize yourself with regulatory requirements, technical design standards, and industry guidelines.
- Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including geotechnical reports, feasibility studies, and construction specifications.
- Engage in professional development and training opportunities.

Qualifications

- A minimum of 6 years of experience in engineering geology or geotechnical engineering, with experience in dam projects being advantageous.
- A Master’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Professional Engineer or Professional Geologist licensure is preferred.
- Willingness to travel nationally and internationally for field investigations or construction oversight.
- Strong understanding of civil, geotechnical, and geological engineering principles.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, with a keen attention to detail.
