This Role
We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Project Engineer to join our global Mining Division, reporting to our office in Denver, CO. The successful applicant will integrate into a vibrant mining team serving clients across various regions. Our ideal candidate possesses a geotechnical mining background, though we welcome individuals with civil land development experience or geological engineers eager to transition into this domain.
Your Contributions
  • Deliver civil/geotechnical engineering and project management services, ensuring the successful execution of geotechnical and geological projects for our mining clientele.
  • Plan, oversee, and direct civil/geotechnical investigations and design initiatives.
  • Manage project scope, budget, schedule, and resources effectively.
  • Coordinate project teams, ensuring the technical quality of all deliverables.
  • Conduct and review geotechnical engineering analyses.
  • Prepare technical reports and proposals.
  • Identify and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Lead or assist in the preparation and presentation of proposals and statements of qualifications.
  • Travel to domestic and international mining sites as needed, with an estimated travel requirement of 15%.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to our Code of Conduct and related policies.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You Are
Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7-10+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, ideally within mining projects.
  • Current registration or immediate eligibility for Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Strong academic foundation and thorough understanding of soil mechanics.
  • Experience in areas such as:
    • Design of Tailings Storage Facilities and Heap Leach Facilities.
    • Foundation engineering.
    • Earth dams and levees.
  • Proven project management capabilities, including scheduling and budgeting, with the ability to lead, train, and mentor junior personnel.
  • Demonstrated technical proficiency in geotechnical engineering.
  • Proficient in MS Office and slope stability software (e.g., GeoStudio and/or RocScience). Familiarity with gINT, FLAC, or PLAXIS is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of drilling techniques, field investigations, and laboratory testing methods.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, writing, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional time management and planning abilities, with a strong capacity to engage with clients.
  • Fluent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites both domestically and internationally, with approximately 15% overnight travel.
  • Must pass a background check and maintain a satisfactory driving record in accordance with company policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering.
  • Familiarity with Civil 3D software.

Compensation

Expected Salary Range: $100,000 - $160,800

WSP USA provides this compensation range based on the belief of what the company might offer for this position, considering the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and geographic location.
