Job Summary

The Design Engineer is responsible for the development of 2D and 3D files, drawings, and layouts of vehicle parts and assemblies. This position requires independence in resolving design challenges and non-routine drawing assignments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create designs for metal fabricated parts and assemblies using SolidWorks 3D.
  • Develop full truck models and related documentation for the production department.
  • Design drawings for external vendors for the purpose of machining or fabricating.
  • Effectively manage files using PDM software.
  • Work independently in a team environment while managing multiple projects of varying degrees of urgency and complexity.
  • Collaborate with production staff to review designs and resolve manufacturing concerns.
  • Complete department ECRs (engineering change requests) as assigned to repair or modify current designs or drawings.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of bills of material for manufactured and purchased parts.
  • Contribute to the improvement of standard operating procedures, safety, quality control, and training.
  • Implement process improvements via design and manufacturing techniques.
  • Manage daily project management and problem resolution.
Additional Responsibilities
  • File management using ERP systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Interactions
  • Interact with various levels of internal staff within different departments.
  • Engage with customers and vendors.
  • Collaborate with production, sales, and purchasing departments.
Requirements
  • Five plus years of mechanical background.
  • Three plus years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Education

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related Engineering field.

Certifications

Valid driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong experience with SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Efficient use of Microsoft desktop applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle multiple projects while maintaining scheduled deadlines.
