Position Overview

This full-time role is crucial for overseeing the financial stewardship of the organization. The Accounting Operations Manager will strategize and guide the accounting functions within the department. This position is responsible for ensuring a precise accounting framework through daily management of the general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable, which includes reconciling and analyzing various accounts while upholding internal controls. Additional clerical duties may be performed as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily operations of the general ledger, including the month-end and year-end accrual processes.
  • Direct the accounts payable process, which encompasses vendor invoice handling, payment authorizations, and vendor statement reconciliations.
  • Manage the processing of insurance payments received via checks and virtual credit cards.
  • Analyze and reconcile various accounts within the general ledger to detect discrepancies and variances.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies, clarify financial data, and support the month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reports, and analyses to aid in decision-making and compliance obligations.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls to protect company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Stay informed about accounting standards, regulations, and industry best practices, ensuring compliance and adapting processes as necessary.
  • Review and assist with payroll system operations.
  • Support the year-end audit process.
  • Contribute to the preparation of annual government reports, including UDS and cost reports.
  • Develop internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget formulation.
  • Conduct audits of accounts to ensure adherence to state and federal regulations; collaborate with external auditors and provide necessary information for the annual external audit.
  • Present strategic recommendations to management regarding short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in accounting.
  • Thorough knowledge of general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payable principles, practices, and processes.
  • Experience with QuickBooks is preferred.
  • Familiarity with non-profit healthcare accounting is advantageous.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit; utilize hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and communicate verbally. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required for this role include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is typically quiet.
