Position Summary:
The ideal candidate for the Medical Laboratory Scientist role will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and capable of thriving in a dynamic environment. This position is responsible for ensuring that clinical laboratory tests requested by healthcare providers are conducted accurately and promptly, adhering to established laboratory protocols and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and documentation of patient test results.
- Maintain records demonstrating proficiency testing samples are treated similarly to patient samples.
- Follow quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues that may impact test performance or reporting.
- Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance standards.
- Perform both routine and complex test procedures requiring professional judgment.
- Exhibit knowledge of the scientific principles underlying the tests performed.
- Recognize deviations from normal results in adult and geriatric patients and understand the underlying scientific reasons.
- Calibrate instruments and assess equipment accuracy; perform preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Verify all test results released by the laboratory, addressing inconsistencies and ensuring accuracy.
- Review outgoing reports for technical and clerical errors.
- Communicate effectively with nursing and medical staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
- Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels and supplies.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
- Adapt to administrative changes in staffing and scheduling.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of quality control standards to ensure test result accuracy.
- Propose and implement technical and administrative changes with Laboratory Director approval.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required.
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist is mandatory.
- A minimum of two years of experience in an acute care setting is essential.
- Strong communication skills are a must.
- Experience as a Generalist is preferred.
- Familiarity with Quality Assurance procedures is advantageous.
