Wisconsin Building Trades Council

The Wisconsin Building Trades Council (WBTC) represents a coalition of local building trades unions dedicated to advocating for over 6,000 members in the construction industry. Our mission focuses on enhancing local employment opportunities and fostering community development through strategic partnerships. The WBTC aims to:

  • Support apprenticeship initiatives in labor-management;
  • Act as a resource for stakeholders in the construction sector;
  • Tackle challenges faced by construction workers, including issues related to worker classification, prevailing wage standards, and responsible contracting practices.

We are looking for a qualified individual to fill the full-time role of Executive Director. Compensation and benefits will be aligned with the candidate's qualifications and experience.   • Experience with labor organizations or issues related to the construction industry;
  • Knowledge of youth apprenticeship programs;
  • Insight into social, political, and legislative matters pertinent to the construction sector;
  • Additional relevant qualifications or experiences;
  • Expected salary range.

Key Responsibilities of the Executive Director

The Executive Director will oversee the daily operations of the Council, with responsibilities including:

Leadership & Strategic Development

  • Act as a leader and representative for the WBTC, aligning with its core objectives;
  • Formulate and execute strategic initiatives for the Council;
  • Prepare and propose the annual budget for the organization.

Marketing and Promotion of Unionized Trades

  • Advocate for labor-management apprenticeship programs within diverse communities;
  • Coordinate outreach initiatives in educational institutions to promote careers in unionized construction;
  • Design and implement communication strategies to highlight the Council's achievements;
  • Engage with media and stakeholders to elevate the Council's visibility;
  • Address public affairs and marketing goals as necessary.

Advocacy & Legislative Relations

  • Build and maintain relationships with elected officials and advocacy organizations to position WBTC as a key information source for the construction industry;
  • Collaborate with labor organizations to enhance political influence;
  • Expand partnerships with developers and contractors;
  • Stay informed on legislative developments affecting workers in the construction trades;
  • Lead initiatives advocating for responsible contracting practices;
  • Represent the Council on various boards and committees;
  • Prepare and submit public comments and testimonies as directed.

Administrative Functions

  • Manage the daily operations of the WBTC, including vendor coordination and regulatory compliance;
  • Organize meetings for the Executive Board and other committees;
  • Negotiate collective bargaining agreements for public sector workers;
  • Plan and execute outreach events, including community engagement activities;
  • Maintain and update the Council's website and digital content.
