Position Overview

The Chief Executive Officer will be at the forefront of guiding the private sector aspect of a newly formed public-private collaboration. This role encompasses the formulation of an annual financial plan and operational strategy, acting as the primary fundraiser for the organization, and overseeing the Madison LakeWay public-private collaboration.

Organizational Background

Madison LakeWay is a prominent 1.7-mile stretch, encompassing 17 acres, that serves as a signature park district linking downtown and south Madison to Lake Monona. Located just a few blocks from the vibrant downtown area, this project is positioned to become a central public gathering space, preserving the scenic lakeshore for future enjoyment.

Madison LakeWay Partners is a 501c3 non-profit organization collaborating with the City of Madison to finance, construct, and manage the Madison LakeWay. Formerly known as the Friends of Nolen Waterfront, this organization has played a pivotal role in fundraising, community engagement, and advancing the Madison LakeWay initiative.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Executive Officer will lead the private sector contributions to the master plan developed by Sasaki for the design and construction of the public space along the waterfront. Responsibilities include:

  • Engaging the community to garner support for the vision through a robust fundraising campaign and community involvement.
  • Securing necessary funding from private and nonprofit sectors to ensure the successful completion, maintenance, and operation of the Madison LakeWay.
  • Overseeing all facets of the planned development, which includes parks, beaches, and walkways along 1.7 miles.
  • Building and managing the daily operations of the Madison LakeWay public-private partnership team.
  • Collaborating with the City of Madison Parks Division to finalize the design and construction of the Madison LakeWay.
  • Working with various stakeholders to foster support for the Madison LakeWay initiative.
  • Ensuring the future operation, maintenance, security, and programming of the public spaces are well-managed and funded.
  • Acting as the spokesperson and representative for Madison LakeWay Partners.
  • Establishing a productive working relationship with the Board of Directors.
