Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Water and Wastewater Superintendent, the Water Distribution Operator is responsible for the operations, maintenance, and repair of the City's water distribution system. This includes operating specialized equipment, such as backhoes and excavators, to install and repair water lines.

Essential Job Functions
  • Maintain regular and prompt attendance, and be physically present to work.
  • Perform after-hours work as required, including nights and weekends.
  • Assist with emergency response as needed by city hall and local EOC.
  • Repair water and sewer leaks as necessary, and operate equipment to make repairs in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Install new service lines for residential and commercial properties.
  • Maintain the condition of the water distribution and pumping system, including fire hydrants.
  • Perform minor repairs and adjustments to equipment, and flush fire hydrants as necessary.
  • Observe all safety regulations and communicate unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries to supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • One to three years of related work experience.
  • Pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Hold a current valid Class C Driver's License and be insurable.
  • Successfully complete Emergency Management and Incident Command Training within the first three months of hire date.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands

This is a safety-sensitive position subject to random drug and alcohol testing. Regularly exposed to extreme heat, hot, humid, and cold weather conditions. Work involves frequent and recurring assignments requiring strenuous effort, including lifting, moving, and carrying up to 50 lbs.
