Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Maintenance Technician to join our team at Hidalgo Co. The ideal candidate will have experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work, and be able to perform a variety of tasks including maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment, and vehicles.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair buildings, equipment, and vehicles
  • Perform construction duties including installing culverts and operating chainsaws
  • Drive County vehicles to haul materials to and from the worksite
  • Load and unload materials, trash, and brush onto trucks
  • Perform minor repairs to tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Assist in cleaning equipment, hand tools, and trucks
  • Act as groundskeeper, involving lawn care, trimming, cutting, and pruning trees and shrubbery
  • Maintain and repair wood parts of buildings, using carpenter tools
  • Maintain and repair County building plumbing and electrical systems
  • Replace worn or damaged parts, such as hoses, wiring, and belts in machines and equipment
Requirements
  • Graduation from a high school or equivalent (GED)
  • Experience in construction, maintenance, and repair work preferred
  • Must have a current valid Texas motor vehicle operator's license
  • Must be able to be insured by the County's insurance carrier
  • Basic knowledge of hand tools associated with manual labor and minor repair of equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Knowledge of the repair, maintenance, and operation of buildings and electrical systems
  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) with the ability to converse fluently in both languages preferred
