Key Responsibilities:

The Patient Account Representative (PAR) is tasked with executing specific billing operations, follow-ups, account resolutions, adjustments, and scanning as necessary. This role collaborates with various departments to ensure the achievement of both departmental and facility objectives. The representative is accountable for resolving accounts and must be adept at identifying solutions to issues while keeping management informed of trends related to payments or other payer-specific concerns.

The Patient Account Representative possesses extensive knowledge of billing practices, accounts receivable follow-up, timely filing regulations, and the ability to thoroughly review remittance advices and electronic billing reports from payers to determine required actions. This position encompasses all related job functions as assigned.

This is an onsite position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Engages with third-party payers and guarantors through payer websites or phone communications to resolve outstanding account balances.
  • Processes all correspondence within 24 hours of receipt, ensuring detailed notes are recorded in the client’s system.
  • Addresses all denials by taking necessary actions to achieve account resolution.
  • Submits appeals for all non-clinical denials as appropriate.
  • Monitors denial trends and issues, reporting findings to the supervisor.
  • Handles billing or re-billing of claims as required.
  • Ensures compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding billing and HIPAA.
  • Completes special projects within designated time frames.
  • Participates in training sessions and seminars provided by the Client and Third-Party Payers.
  • Accurately documents each account worked in the client practice management system.
  • Implements necessary corrections in the client practice management system.
  • Resolves or forwards all address and/or plan changes to maintain the integrity of the insurance master.
  • Updates patient accounts with corrected demographic or insurance information.
  • Posts adjustments according to standard operating procedures or as directed by leadership.
  • Handles all customer inquiries, both internal and external, in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Proficient PC skills in a Windows environment are required.
  • Knowledge and use of desktop applications, including Word and Excel, are essential.
  • Ability to initiate and follow through on projects independently with minimal supervision.


Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED or 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of diploma/GED.
  • 1-year experience in an office, customer service, or healthcare environment preferred.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years of experience in Revenue Cycle.
  • Experience with Medicaid and/or Government Payers.
