Position Overview – Account Sales Specialist
Reports to: District Sales Manager
Position Objective:
The Account Sales Specialist is tasked with enhancing the sales performance of company offerings across designated accounts.
Physical Responsibilities:
Maintain cleanliness of shelves and vendor areas. Utilize hand trucks or dollies to transport products (approximately 20 to 50 lbs per case). Maneuver hand trucks to storage areas or shelves for loading of designated products. The volume of products may vary significantly from 1 case to over 1000 at any given time. Climbing in and out of vehicles and adhering to proper lifting techniques is essential.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Conduct thorough sales visits to all assigned accounts on the scheduled days and in the designated order.
- Promote and display all beverage products in line with the standards of Gulf Distributing.
- Collaborate with retailers to balance order quantities between their scheduled deliveries.
- Ensure all promotional and permanent Point of Sale materials are utilized correctly and in appropriate quantities.
- Leverage sales history data for each account as a strategic selling tool. Review all products during each sales visit to avoid stockouts and call-ins.
- Request additional placements, advertisements, displays, signage, price reductions, etc., during each sales visit.
- Keep marketing plans and tracking charts updated on a daily basis.
- Actively engage in all incentive programs.
- Return to accounts as necessary to assist with or complete the merchandising of delivered products.
- Prepare Point of Sale materials for the Delivery Driver/Merchandiser to effectively service accounts on the following business day.
- Foster positive working relationships with the owners, managers, and staff of assigned accounts.
- Avoid contacting retailers during peak business hours whenever possible.
- Stay informed about competitive activities and opportunities to boost sales within assigned accounts.
- Monitor and record pricing on all competitive products to ensure market parity.
- Pursue new placements and negotiate lower pricing on special promotions or new everyday lower prices on products.
- Request shelf space from competitors for new placements or to expand existing ones.
- Work with assigned accounts to enhance shelf positioning within coolers, warm shelves, and floor displays.
- Educate and train retailers and their staff on effective selling, merchandising, and pricing strategies for the products supplied.
- Demonstrate a genuine interest in the business success of each assigned account.
- Maintain open and clear communication with the owners, managers, and employees of Gulf Distributing.
- Report new competitive activities and pricing information to the Manager promptly.
- Share valuable insights during weekly sales meetings that could benefit the company.
- Ensure orders are ready for downloading at the assigned times.
- Communicate necessary tasks to Delivery Drivers regarding displays, placements, Point of Sale materials, and other duties.
- Ensure proper stock rotation is implemented in all assigned accounts.
- Return close-dated products to the warehouse for redistribution to accounts that can sell them before expiration.
- Monitor code dates and ensure that out-of-date products are swapped out.
- Ensure all packages are sellable and manage damaged products appropriately.
- Keep your vehicle clean and organized.
- Service your vehicle regularly and repair as needed to minimize breakdowns.
- Maintain a professional appearance in accordance with company policy.
- Properly operate and safeguard all issued equipment (e.g., radios, hand trucks, vehicles).
- Conduct all activities in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Report any traffic violations to your Manager that may impact your insurability.
- Adhere to local, state, and federal liquor control regulations in all activities.
- Report all accidents and injuries to your Manager immediately.
- Follow safe work practices, policies, and procedures in all work activities.
- Execute monthly sales features secured by the chain department, including selling required case deals, building authorized displays, and maintaining promotional pricing.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Preferred 1 year of sales experience.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage others effectively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational abilities.
