Key Responsibilities:
The Patient Account Representative (PAR) is tasked with executing specific billing functions, follow-ups, account resolutions, adjustments, and necessary documentation. This role collaborates with various departments to ensure the achievement of departmental and facility objectives. The PAR is accountable for resolving accounts and must effectively communicate any patterns related to payments or issues with specific payers to management.
The representative should possess comprehensive knowledge of billing processes, accounts receivable follow-up, timely filing protocols, and the capability to thoroughly analyze remittance advices and electronic billing reports from payers to determine required actions. This position encompasses all related duties as assigned.
This is an onsite position.
Responsibilities Include:
- Engaging with third-party payers and guarantors through payer websites or phone to resolve outstanding account balances.
- Managing all correspondence within a 24-hour timeframe and documenting detailed notes in the client’s system.
- Addressing all denials and taking necessary actions to achieve account resolution.
- Submitting appeals for all non-clinical denials when appropriate.
- Monitoring denial trends and reporting findings to supervisors.
- Billing or re-billing claims as necessary.
- Ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations regarding billing and HIPAA.
- Completing assigned special projects within designated timeframes.
- Participating in training sessions and seminars provided by the client and third-party payers.
- Documenting each account interaction in the client practice management system.
- Making necessary corrections in the client practice management system.
- Resolving or forwarding all address and/or plan changes to maintain the integrity of the insurance master.
- Updating patient accounts with accurate demographic or insurance information.
- Posting adjustments in accordance with standard operating procedures or as directed by leadership.
- Handling all customer interactions in a professional and courteous manner.
- Proficiency in PC skills within a Windows environment is required.
- Essential knowledge and use of desktop applications, including Word and Excel.
- Ability to initiate and follow through on projects while working independently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED or 3 years of relevant experience in lieu of diploma/GED.
- Preferred: 1-year experience in an office, customer service, or healthcare environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 1+ years of experience in Revenue Cycle.
- Experience with Medicaid and/or Government Payers.
