We are seeking a Senior Accounting Specialist to become a vital member of our expanding team in Birmingham, AL. This position will play a crucial role within the accounting department, focusing on the preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and the classification of income statement entries. The selected candidate will handle routine accounting tasks and manage tax obligations and filings for our facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of SVP's operations and transaction flow from initiation to reporting in the general ledger.
- Prepare and review precise journal entries for both the income statement and balance sheet, adhering to established timelines and guidelines.
- Conduct account reconciliations for the balance sheet and perform related income statement evaluations, including trend and variance analysis.
- Ensure accurate accounting classification of the income statement with meticulous attention to detail.
- Summarize, manipulate, and present financial data in a clear and meaningful way.
- Maintain current knowledge of US GAAP accounting standards and their implications for SVP.
- Facilitate communication between veterinary clinics and management as needed.
- Uphold strict compliance with internal controls over financial reporting.
- Manage project requests with a creative approach and exceptional attention to detail.
- Embrace a mindset of continuous improvement to enhance efficiencies within the accounting function and the organization as a whole.
- Exhibit strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- 1+ years of experience in accounting, auditing, or a similar professional role preferred but not mandatory.
- Experience in the retail or healthcare sectors is advantageous.
- Familiarity with Blackline software is a plus but not required.
- Proficient in accounting software applications.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets.
- Excellent presentation, reporting, and communication abilities.
- Demonstrated efficiency and a solution-oriented mindset.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and achieve objectives with minimal supervision.
