Core Objective

The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the LNG Operations Service Team, delivering specialized technical support to Sempra Infrastructure's operational sites and projects in development.

As a vital member of a collaborative service team, the Mechanical Engineer SME is expected to comprehend the interconnected LNG liquefaction value chain and adeptly navigate the challenges faced by operational facilities. By leveraging their expertise, they will contribute to the enhancement of Operational Excellence across Sempra Infrastructure's LNG assets through various activities such as troubleshooting, improving processes, and developing innovative solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical resource for operating facilities and Sempra Infrastructure management, focusing on the evaluation and maintenance of rotating equipment. Analyze equipment failures to identify root causes and propose effective mitigation strategies. Ensure familiarity with QA/QC methodologies applicable to LNG facility operations and maintenance.
  • Conduct reviews and troubleshooting of plant equipment, including utility air and nitrogen systems, chemical storage, and transport systems. Address and resolve atypical events such as false trips and alarms.
  • Oversee failure analysis and develop risk mitigation strategies based on findings. Advocate for the implementation of risk-based maintenance principles within preventative maintenance programs.
  • Audit asset integrity management systems to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Examine operational and maintenance procedures to enhance efficiency and safety. Review P&IDs, Safety Matrices, and Cause and Effect Matrices to ensure clarity and consistency, and create simplified versions as necessary.
  • Design and deliver technical training for operations and maintenance teams related to liquefaction processes. Promote the adoption of Best Practices across facilities, emphasizing safe work practices.
  • Engage in the development of Sempra Infrastructure LNG and associated assets, contributing to Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) teams.
  • Perform additional duties as required (limited to 5% of responsibilities).
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in the Energy or LNG sector, with a minimum of 4 years in a specialized mechanical engineering role.
  • Willingness to travel to various facilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems, including vessels, columns, and heat exchangers, covering design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with structural platforms, piping, valves, and insulation, including their design and maintenance.
  • Strong project management and leadership capabilities, with the ability to analyze data, identify issues, and implement solutions effectively.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction practices in the energy, natural gas, and petroleum industries.
  • Awareness of industry organizations and trends impacting Sempra Infrastructure LNG assets.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry codes and regulations, providing guidance on their applicability.
  • Insight into the operational and commercial aspects of LNG facilities.
  • Ability to manage and guide personnel across diverse roles related to LNG facilities.
  • Capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously while meeting corporate and project objectives.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate professionally and effectively.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in a plant environment.
