Core Objective

The Senior LNG Process Engineering Specialist serves as a pivotal technical authority within the LNG Operations Service Team, delivering expert guidance to Sempra Infrastructure's operational facilities and projects in development.

As a member of a collaborative service team dedicated to Sempra Infrastructure and adhering to Sempra's Guiding Principles, the Principal Process Engineer must possess a comprehensive understanding of the LNG liquefaction value chain and adeptly navigate the challenges faced by operational facilities. Utilizing their expertise, they will facilitate, support, evaluate, troubleshoot, and enhance processes, acting as key drivers of Operational Excellence across Sempra Infrastructure's LNG assets.

Key Areas of Expertise
  • Implementing hazard mitigation strategies to ensure process safety, optimizing plant control systems, and evaluating complex control loops.
  • Managing change effectively, including natural gas pretreatment and LNG liquefaction processes, with a focus on integrated process analysis and modeling.
  • Conducting process troubleshooting and data analysis, and assisting in turnaround planning and execution.
  • Communicating technical knowledge effectively to a diverse workforce within a customer-focused shared services environment.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical resource for process control operations, reviewing intricate control loops in DCS, PLC, and other systems, and providing actionable insights to operations teams.
  • Identify and address process bottlenecks and instabilities, conducting root cause analysis and developing effective solutions.
  • Analyze operating and maintenance procedures to enhance safety and efficiency, ensuring documentation accuracy and clarity.
  • Lead technical training initiatives for operations and maintenance teams, promoting the adoption of best practices in liquefaction processes.
  • Oversee third-party engagements, managing vendors and consultants in process-related studies and equipment performance evaluations.
  • Contribute to the development of Sempra Infrastructure's LNG assets and participate in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, ensuring a flexible approach to responsibilities.
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in a similar role within the energy or LNG sector.
  • Willingness to travel to various facilities as required.
  • Familiarity with industry trade groups and the ability to monitor trends affecting LNG assets.
  • Extensive knowledge of industry codes (API, NFPA, ASTM) and regulations (FERC, PHMSA), providing guidance on their application.
  • Proficiency in data historization applications, including HMI, DCS, PLC, and process modeling using Aspen HYSYS.
  • Understanding of the operational and commercial dynamics of LNG facilities.
  • Capability to conduct economic analyses and engineering specifications.
  • Experience in process scheduling and risk management.
  • Ability to manage and mentor personnel with diverse responsibilities related to LNG facilities.
  • Skilled in managing multiple projects concurrently while meeting corporate and project objectives.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating tact, courtesy, and professionalism in diverse interactions.
  • Effective communication skills across various mediums, including in-person and written correspondence.
  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Desirable Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in a plant environment.
