Job Overview

Core Objective

The Senior Mechanical Engineer serves as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) within the LNG Operations Service Team, delivering specialized technical knowledge to Sempra Infrastructure's operational facilities and projects in development.

As a vital member of a collaborative service team, the Mechanical Engineer SME is expected to possess a comprehensive understanding of the integrated LNG liquefaction value chain, adeptly navigating the complexities associated with operational facilities. By leveraging their expertise, they will facilitate, support, assess, troubleshoot, enhance, and innovate processes, thereby driving Operational Excellence across Sempra Infrastructure's LNG assets.

Key Areas of Expertise
  • Implementing hazard mitigation strategies to ensure process safety, while evaluating and troubleshooting process systems and equipment within LNG plants.
  • Understanding regulatory requirements and enhancing LNG asset integrity programs, including the assessment and troubleshooting of rotating equipment and cryogenic systems.
  • Assisting in turnaround planning and effectively communicating technical insights to a diverse workforce in a customer-focused shared services environment.
Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical resource for operating facilities and Sempra Infrastructure management, conducting evaluations and maintenance of rotating equipment. Analyze equipment failures to identify systemic causes and propose effective solutions.
  • Review and troubleshoot plant equipment, including utility air and nitrogen systems, and manage outlier events such as spurious trips and alarms.
  • Conduct failure analyses and develop risk-based maintenance strategies, communicating findings to relevant stakeholders.
  • Audit asset integrity management systems to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
  • Enhance operating and maintenance procedures for improved safety and efficiency, reviewing technical documentation for clarity and accuracy.
  • Plan and deliver technical training for operations and maintenance personnel, promoting Best Practices across facilities.
  • Engage in the development of Sempra Infrastructure LNG and associated assets, contributing to PHA teams.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned (limited to 5% of responsibilities).
Qualifications

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of experience in the Energy or LNG sector, with a minimum of 4 years in a specialized mechanical engineering role.
  • Willingness to travel to various facilities as required.
  • In-depth knowledge of mechanical equipment, including vessels, columns, and heat exchangers, along with their design, installation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with structural platforms, piping, valves, and insulation, including their design and maintenance.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify issues, and implement effective solutions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of construction techniques in the energy, natural gas, and petroleum industries.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and regulations, providing guidance on their applicability.
  • Understanding of the operational and commercial aspects of LNG facilities.
  • Ability to manage diverse personnel and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in a plant environment.
