Job Overview:
The Lead Lifeguard plays a crucial role in overseeing the operations of the aquatic facility. This position involves taking charge of the lifeguard team and swim instructors during shifts, ensuring safety and compliance with facility regulations. Responsibilities include conducting training sessions, performing routine maintenance checks, and ensuring the overall safety of all aquatic activities. The Lead Lifeguard is also tasked with communicating effectively with the public regarding aquatic programs and safety measures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Exhibit exemplary skills and professionalism, serving as a role model for the lifeguard team.
- Foster a cohesive lifeguard team through evaluation, coaching, and supervision.
- Ensure lifeguards are attentive, rotating duties appropriately, and adhering to break schedules.
- Maintain optimal lifeguard station placements based on pool activity.
- Work collaboratively with the lifeguard team while enforcing facility rules and policies.
- Lead emergency situations effectively, ensuring proper documentation of incidents.
- Conduct daily safety inspections of pools and equipment to mitigate hazards.
- Communicate maintenance and operational concerns to management promptly.
- Manage pool chemical levels, including the administration of necessary chemicals.
- Must be at least 18 years old to handle pool chemicals.
- Previous experience in customer service.
- Ability to assess conditions and make sound judgments regarding patron safety.
- Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills, including conflict resolution.
- Proficient in lifeguarding and swim instruction.
- Friendly and approachable demeanor.
- Able to work independently and under supervision.
- Must pass background checks.
- All lifeguards must demonstrate lifesaving skills and water competency prior to employment.
- American Red Cross Swim Instructor certification preferred.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification preferred.
- Certification in American Red Cross Administering Emergency Oxygen.
- Minimum of six months of lifeguard experience.
- Minimum of six months of leadership experience.
- Current American Red Cross certifications in Lifeguarding, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- Work in an outdoor environment with varying weather conditions, including extended periods in the sun.
- Availability for early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required.
