Your Role:
As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the new product development process by applying 'Design for X' methodologies. Your responsibilities will encompass the entire lifecycle of spacecraft components, from initial prototypes to high-volume production. You will utilize your expertise in industrial process engineering to design, validate, and operate an automated production system, resulting in uniquely crafted, fully assembled spacecraft.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and execution of an automated lithium-ion battery production center and related electronic projects.
  • Conduct trade studies, establish hardware specifications, design mechanical components, and initiate procurement of automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, providing DfX expertise to enhance product design.
  • Oversee characterization, qualification, and acceptance testing of materials, processes, and machine prototypes.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield enhancement, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity improvement, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical support for failure analysis of production components, assemblies, and field returns.
  • Analyze product designs and existing manufacturing processes to identify risks, lead DFMEA/PFMEA reviews, and validate critical manufacturing tests.
  • Support digital manufacturing efforts by simulating production equipment and integrating IIoT devices.
  • Create comprehensive process documentation and lead training for manufacturing equipment operators.
  • Utilize project management skills to coordinate internal and external resources, ensuring timely and cost-effective project execution.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Industrial, Manufacturing, or Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-7 years of relevant professional experience in manufacturing engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with fabrication tools such as drill presses, power saws, soldering irons, and vacuum chambers.
  • Strong understanding of continuous improvement methodologies, including LEAN and Six Sigma.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment while managing competing priorities.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 25% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certification as a Six Sigma Green/Black Belt.
  • Experience managing robotic or industrial automation processes on production lines.
  • Familiarity with traceability and quality standards as outlined by AS9100.

This is a full-time, exempt position with a focus on redefining satellite design, manufacturing, and usage.
