The CHS Policy Management Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting the Policy Management and Nursing Education Programs at Cayuga Health. This position aids operational leaders in refining their policies and standard operating procedures throughout the care continuum. The Specialist also contributes to the Nursing and Patient Care Services education initiatives by ensuring quality assurance of practices in alignment with established policies. Furthermore, the Specialist collaborates with the Program Manager of Clinical Regulatory and Policy Management to facilitate the program's operational activities.
This role supports the Manager of Nursing Quality in the application of evidence-based practices impacting nursing operations and works closely with the Executive Director of Nursing Practice for outpatient services. The Specialist is involved in the creation of educational materials and training sessions, partnering with nursing leadership, staff, providers, families, and caregivers to assess incidents that necessitate policy development, thereby ensuring safe, effective, and patient-centered care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership in Situations: Understands and embodies the Organization's Mission, Vision, and Values in all actions and decisions.
- Project and Change Management: Assists in the execution of policy implementation alongside operational leaders, ensuring effective integration of policies through committee reporting, workflow development, and education.
- Regulatory Compliance: Identifies and develops policies that help mitigate regulatory risks and address practice gaps, serving as the liaison for operational leaders during regulatory visits and accreditation surveys.
- Documentation Management: Supports the Regulatory and Policy Management committees by ensuring proper record-keeping and documentation processes are followed.
- Performance Evaluation: Monitors and reports on the effectiveness of policy management initiatives.
- Team Guidance: Provides support to operational leaders in policy development and facilitates interdisciplinary workgroups to achieve consensus.
- Training and Skill Development: Identifies training needs and opportunities to enhance staff understanding and skills related to policy adherence.
- Education: Preferred qualifications include a Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN), Registered Nurse (RN), or relevant clinical experience. Educational background and experience may be considered interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years in a role involving significant coordination related to policy management.
- Licensure: Must obtain Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) certification within 2 years of employment.
- Experience in regulatory compliance, change management, and policy oversight.
- Skills and Abilities: Strong relationship management, excellent written and verbal communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, along with strong analytical skills and experience in data analysis and reporting. Knowledge of quality management principles is essential.
- Primarily sedentary work, with occasional lifting of up to 10 pounds.
- Position involves sitting most of the time, with occasional walking and standing.
- Location: In-person/Hybrid work arrangement.
- Travel: Required travel to various CHS locations.
- Annual salary range of $55,000 to $75,000.
