Credentialing Specialist Job Summary

Cayuga Health System is seeking a highly skilled Credentialing Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and directing medical staff activities, ensuring that all services provided by medical facilities meet state and federal government agency standards.

The Credentialing Specialist will work closely with the Vice President of Medical Affairs, Medical Center President/CEO, and other departmental staff to advance the quality of practitioners and patient safety of the facility. Key responsibilities include:

  • Assisting with hiring new staff by reviewing resumes and applications to ensure that applicants fulfill all necessary licensing and credential requirements.
  • Analyzing application and supporting documents for completeness and informing the practitioner of the application status.
  • Conducting primary source verification and verifying that professional training, certifications, and licensing are up to date and in compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Performing background checks, contacting licensing boards, reviewing license applications, requesting education details, and interviewing references.
  • Compiling, evaluating, and presenting practitioner-specific data for review by decision-making bodies.
  • Maintaining databases for medical professionals and healthcare facilities.
  • Managing compliance with accreditation standards and regulatory requirements.

Requirements for the Credentialing Specialist position include:

  • An Associate's degree or H.S. Diploma with a minimum of 5 years directly related experience and CPSC Certification.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with absolute confidentiality.
  • Organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and set goals and strategies to achieve them.
