Job Overview:

We are seeking a proficient Automation Scientist with extensive expertise in liquid handling robotics and its integration with various supporting instruments. The successful candidate will employ innovative strategies to design, enhance, and execute workflows related to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell and organoid systems on automated platforms. This position presents an exceptional opportunity to work collaboratively with diverse scientific teams and contribute to significant advancements in drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate Liquid Handling Robotics: Efficiently incorporate liquid handling robotics with essential instrumentation to facilitate molecular and cellular biology workflows.
  • Automate Standardized Assays: Develop and implement automated processes for a variety of standardized assays, including DNA/RNA purification and NGS library preparation.
  • Collaborate on Workflow Translation: Partner with scientists to convert bench-scale processes into fully automated systems, ensuring rigorous validation through comprehensive testing.
  • Design User-Centric Processes: Create and validate streamlined processes on integrated lab automation platforms, focusing on user-friendliness and data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and Optimize: Engage in advanced troubleshooting to enhance process efficiency and maintain scientific rigor.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with interdisciplinary teams to integrate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems.
  • Technical Support: Address and resolve technical challenges related to automation and cell-based workflows.
  • User Training: Provide training to end-users on the operation of automated platforms and workflow execution.
  • Stay Informed on Technology: Remain updated on the latest advancements in automation technologies and methodologies.
  • Independent Workflow Development: Independently manage and develop automated workflows for clients.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain comprehensive records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Organization: Collaborate with various teams, sharing methodologies and aligning experimental efforts.
  • Lab Management: Oversee the organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 1 year or Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in bioengineering or biology, emphasizing automation platforms in relevant industries.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with programming and troubleshooting liquid handling systems for high-throughput screening and NGS workflows.
  • Familiarity with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments.
  • Strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, with practical experience in NGS assays.
  • Ability to create and maintain Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), and Performance Qualifications (PQ) protocols.
  • Experience collaborating with R&D teams on automation projects.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, with additional languages being advantageous.
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in work.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Proficiency in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NGS workflows and automation.
  • Understanding of cellular and molecular biology, including DNA/RNA purification.
  • Experience in automation programming for liquid handlers.
  • Background in organoid culture and assay development is a plus.

Additional Requirements:

Experience in a laboratory setting involving biological materials.

Ability to handle hazardous materials.
