Position Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated and innovative Automation Specialist with expertise in liquid handling robotics and its integration with various laboratory instruments. The successful candidate will exhibit creative problem-solving skills in the design, optimization, and execution of workflows related to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) and organoid-based research on automated systems. This role provides an exciting opportunity to work collaboratively with diverse scientific teams and contribute to significant advancements in drug discovery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integrate Liquid Handling Robotics: Efficiently incorporate liquid handling robotic systems with essential laboratory instruments to facilitate molecular biology and organoid workflows.
  • Automate Standardized Assays: Develop and implement automated processes for a variety of assays, including DNA/RNA purification, NGS library preparation, qPCR, and cell/organoid maintenance.
  • Collaborate on Workflow Translation: Partner with scientists to convert benchtop methods into fully automated protocols, ensuring rigorous validation through both dry and wet runs.
  • Design User-Centric Processes: Create and validate comprehensive processes on integrated automation platforms, focusing on user-friendliness and data integrity.
  • Troubleshoot and Optimize: Work alongside scientists to troubleshoot experimental challenges and enhance workflow efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Collaborate with various teams to integrate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems, ensuring successful project outcomes.
  • Technical Support: Address and resolve technical issues related to automation and NGS workflows.
  • User Training: Provide training for end-users on the operation of automated platforms and workflow execution.
  • Stay Informed on Technology: Keep abreast of the latest advancements in automation technologies and methodologies relevant to liquid handling.
  • Independent Workflow Development: Independently design and implement novel automated workflows.
  • Maintain Accurate Records: Generate and manage detailed records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work with multiple teams to support and share methodologies, ensuring aligned efforts across the organization.
  • Lab Management: Oversee the organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment and resources.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 1 year or Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in bioengineering or biology, focusing on automation and liquid handling in relevant sectors.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with programming and troubleshooting liquid handling systems for high-throughput screening and NGS workflows.
  • Direct experience with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments.
  • Strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology, particularly NGS assays.
  • Proven track record of developing and maintaining operational protocols for lab automation systems.
  • Experience collaborating with R&D teams on automation projects.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language, with additional knowledge in other languages being advantageous.
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects effectively.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in all work.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Expertise in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NGS workflows and automation.
  • Functional understanding of cellular and molecular biology techniques.
  • Proficiency in NGS protocols and automation programming.
  • Experience in organoid culture and assay development is a plus.
