We are seeking a proficient automation expert with extensive experience in liquid handling robotics and the integration of complementary instrumentation. The ideal candidate will showcase creative methodologies in the design, enhancement, and execution of Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell- and organoid-based processes on automated robotic platforms. This position provides an opportunity for the selected individual to foster a growth-oriented mindset and gain knowledge in cutting-edge automation technologies. The candidate will also be responsible for conducting experiments, including scale-down, high-throughput, and automation, aimed at improving our team's screening capabilities in patient-derived organoid model systems for early drug target identification. This role presents a unique chance to collaborate with various cross-functional scientific teams and contribute to pioneering drug discoveries that significantly influence patient health.
Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree with a minimum of 1 year or Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in bioengineering or biology, emphasizing automation platforms and liquid handlers within pharmaceutical, biotechnology firms, or academic/not-for-profit institutions.
  • At least 3 years of practical experience in programming and troubleshooting liquid handling systems for high-throughput screening (HTS), alongside NGS- and organoid- or cell-based workflows.
  • Direct involvement with laboratory operations and upkeep of standard automation instruments utilized for NGS workflows.
  • Strong grasp of molecular and cellular biology, including NGS assays (e.g., DNA-seq, RNA-Seq), with demonstrated application of these assays in real-world scenarios.
  • Proven capability to develop, adhere to, and maintain Installation Qualifications (IQ), Operational Qualifications (OQ), Performance Qualifications (PQ) protocols, as well as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for laboratory automation systems.
  • Experience collaborating with R&D teams to deliver automation initiatives.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills within a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Functional knowledge of at least one high-level programming language (e.g., Python); familiarity with additional programming languages (e.g., Perl, R, C++) is advantageous.
  • Experience in programming, executing, and troubleshooting workflows using Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling systems.
  • Skilled in managing multiple concurrent projects and tasks effectively.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving abilities.
  • Consistent and thorough evaluation of personal work to uphold high standards of quality.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive hands-on experience with high-throughput methodologies, liquid handlers, and laboratory automation scheduling systems.
  • Expertise in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instrumentation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of end-to-end NGS workflows, focusing on instrumentation and automation.
  • Functional understanding of cellular biology, molecular biology, and DNA/RNA purification techniques.
  • Proficiency in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) protocols.
  • Knowledge of automation programming and/or scripting (e.g., Python) for liquid handlers.
  • Prior experience in manual or automated organoid culture and assay development is a plus.

Additional Job Requirements:

  • Laboratory work involving blood and animal samples.
  • Position involves handling hazardous materials.

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is set at $44.00 per hour.
