Job Overview:

We are in search of a proficient Automation Scientist with extensive experience in liquid handling robotics and its integration with complementary instruments. The successful candidate will exhibit creative strategies in the design, optimization, and execution of workflows related to Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) or cell and organoid systems on automated platforms. This position provides an exceptional opportunity to engage with diverse scientific teams and play a vital role in pioneering drug discovery initiatives that have a direct influence on patient health.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Integration of Liquid Handling Robotics: Efficiently incorporate liquid handling robotics with supporting instruments to facilitate molecular and cellular biology workflows.
  • Automation of Standardized Assays: Validate and implement automated processes for various assays, including DNA/RNA purification, NGS library preparation, and cell/organoid viability assessments.
  • Collaboration on Workflow Translation: Partner with scientists to convert benchtop processes into fully automated systems, ensuring rigorous validation through both dry and wet runs.
  • User-Centric Process Design: Create and validate comprehensive processes on lab automation platforms, focusing on user-friendly designs and secure data management.
  • Troubleshooting and Efficiency Enhancement: Conduct advanced troubleshooting to improve usability and process efficiency.
  • Cross-Functional Team Collaboration: Work with various teams to integrate NGS and organoid workflows into automated systems.
  • Technical Issue Resolution: Address technical challenges related to automation and NGS workflows.
  • User Training: Educate end-users on the operation of automated platforms and workflow execution.
  • Staying Informed on Technology: Remain updated on advancements in automation technologies and methodologies.
  • Independent Workflow Development: Independently manage automated workflows for clients.
  • Meticulous Documentation: Maintain comprehensive records of all experiments conducted.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Engage with multiple teams to share methodologies and align experimental efforts.
  • Lab and Equipment Oversight: Ensure proper organization and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master's degree with 1+ years or Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in bioengineering or biology, emphasizing automation platforms in relevant industries.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience with programming and troubleshooting liquid handling systems for high-throughput screening and NGS workflows.
  • Direct experience with laboratory operations and maintenance of automation instruments.
  • Strong knowledge of molecular and cellular biology, including practical experience with NGS assays.
  • Proven ability to maintain and follow Installation, Operational, and Performance Qualification protocols.
  • Experience collaborating with R&D teams on automation projects.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Functional knowledge of at least one high-level programming language, with additional languages being a plus.
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter and/or Dynamic Devices liquid handling platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Commitment to maintaining high-quality standards in work.

Preferred Skills:

  • Extensive experience with high-throughput methods and laboratory automation.
  • Proficiency in integrating liquid handling systems with supporting instruments.
  • In-depth knowledge of NGS workflows and automation.
  • Understanding of cellular and molecular biology, including DNA/RNA purification.
  • Familiarity with automation programming for liquid handlers.
  • Experience in organoid culture and assay development is advantageous.

Additional Requirements:

Experience in a laboratory setting with exposure to hazardous materials.
