Position Summary:

In this role, you will oversee engineering design, planning, and management of all project phases—from Engineering and Procurement to Installation, Startup & Commissioning, and Closeout—ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction. You will address issues related to project scope for small to medium-sized initiatives, holding accountability to field teams for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of designs. Additionally, you will provide detailed information and submissions to effectively communicate design and operational details to clients, consultants, field installation teams, and subcontractors.

A Robotics Automation Engineer will utilize their extensive knowledge and experience in developing, programming, and commissioning laboratory robotics systems and/or industrial automation equipment. This includes, but is not limited to, SCARA robotics, gantry-based liquid handlers, 6-axis arms, PLC-based work cells, vision systems, conveyance systems, integration solutions, driver development, and GUI development on HMIs. Furthermore, they will apply their expertise in developing these tools for scientific or manufacturing applications, focusing on material stability, contamination reduction, timing, and resource management to assist JSat's clients in deploying successful solutions across their operations. Additionally, Robotics and Automation Engineers will possess a strong understanding of software tools such as scheduling software, analytical laboratory tools, LIMS, or MES solutions, and SCADA systems.

The position requires exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment and discretion, showcasing the highest levels of professionalism and initiative to enhance organizational processes. The ability to independently initiate and complete projects and reports accurately, often under deadline pressure, is essential. Candidates must also be capable of processing, prioritizing, assigning, and following up on requests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Python applications and scripts for laboratory automation.
  • Design, program, and validate intricate liquid handling processes on automated platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define system requirements, configure equipment, and implement solutions.
  • Provide on-site technical support, including installation, commissioning, training, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive project documentation, including Bill of Materials, Sequences of Operations, and equipment specifications.
  • Identify and implement efficient solutions for complex automation challenges.
  • Represent the company at industry conferences and trade shows.
  • Actively participate in and lead client meetings and presentations.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory automation.
  • Proven expertise in programming and integrating laboratory automation equipment (e.g., Fanuc, Tecan, Hamilton, Dynamic Devices, Opentrons, Epson, Staubli, Agilent, Precise Automation).
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or R&D environment within the biotech or pharmaceutical industry.
  • Proficiency in Python, C#, or other programming languages.
  • In-depth knowledge of automated liquid handling platforms (e.g., Hamilton, Dynamic Devices, Tecan, Agilent).
  • Experience with robotic arms (e.g., Fanuc, Staubli, Precise, URe3) is preferred.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 40%.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to occasionally move and lift objects of up to 30lbs.
  • Must be willing to work onsite 2 days a week.

Salary DOE: The pay range for this position is $125k - $160k per year; however, base pay may be higher or lower depending on the candidate's job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This figure does not include additional compensation such as health benefits, vacation.
