About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Gifts Officer to join our External Relations team at the Salk Institute. As a key member of our fundraising team, you will be responsible for identifying and closing major gifts to advance the mission of scientific discovery at the Salk Institute.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects/donors for the purposes of qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  2. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work in a collaborative way with the fundraising team and other External Relations Departments to identify and steward major gift prospects/donors.
  3. Gift Identification and Stewardship: Identify, cultivate, close, and steward gifts at a principal gift level based on an annual system of metrics.
  4. Faculty Relationships: Establish positive and strategic working relationships with Faculty.
  5. Core Values: Demonstrate core values of integrity, community, accountability, respect, and empowerment to donors, colleagues, faculty, and volunteers.
  6. Strategic Fundraising: Participate in planning and implementing effective fund-raising strategies that consider the unique mission of Salk and the special needs of donors and potential donors.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (BA) from a four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of eight to ten years of related experience and/or training.
  • Skills: Computer skills required: Development Software; Microsoft Office.
What We Offer

The Salk Institute offers a competitive salary range of $120,000 to $155,000 per annum, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, retirement, paid time off, tuition reimbursement, patient advocacy services, and transit/parking program.
