About the Role

The State of Vermont's Department of Mental Health is seeking a Senior Mental Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our multi-disciplinary treatment team, you will play a vital role in providing specialized technical level work involving the planning and delivery of care and treatment of individuals with a mental illness at Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital.

This is a challenging yet rewarding role that requires a high level of patient care knowledge and specialized technical skills. You will work closely with social workers, psychiatrists, nurses, psychologists, patients, families, visitors, and treatment personnel from other facilities to provide comprehensive care and support.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mental health, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities
  • Provide specialized technical level work involving the planning and delivery of care and treatment of individuals with a mental illness
  • Work closely with a multi-disciplinary treatment team to provide comprehensive care and support
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that meet the unique needs of each patient
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless care and support
  • Provide education and support to patients and their families to promote recovery and well-being
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • One (1) year or more of experience as a VPCH Associate Mental Health Specialist AND demonstrated successful completion of the VPCH Training Academy or equivalent
  • OR Five (5) years or more of work experience in an inpatient mental health setting
  • OR Associates degree in a human services field AND three (3) years of work experience in an inpatient mental health setting
  • OR Bachelor's degree in a human services field and two (2) years or more of work experience in an inpatient mental health setting
Preferred Qualifications

Successful work experience in an inpatient psychiatric or community psychiatric care setting, successful completion of patient care related trainings and/or education is preferred.
