Dept Engineering Overview:

Design tomorrow's testing solutions with us. At Milwaukee Tool, Disruptive Innovation extends beyond the products we launch; it encompasses all aspects of our organization, including engineering support roles. As a collective of Automation Engineers, we devise innovative automated testing systems to facilitate new product evaluations across North America. We collaborate with new product development engineers and the testing laboratory to establish test system specifications. Our empowered decisions enable us to swiftly transition your test system designs from concept to execution. Furthermore, we provide support for troubleshooting and design modifications to enhance existing systems continuously.

We seek engineers who are enthusiastic about automation, teamwork, and product evaluation. A typical Automation Engineer possesses a diverse skill set in mechatronics, including Mechanical, Electrical, and Programming disciplines. While specialization in one area is common, each engineer is expected to be versatile across various fields.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

  • Designing innovative automated testing systems to aid new product development.
  • Developing custom NI LabVIEW applications for data collection, hardware management, automated test execution, and test lab process automation.
  • Maintaining current LabVIEW applications.
  • Creating and querying SQL databases to store test data, generate data visualizations, and facilitate data-driven decision-making.
  • Integrating and troubleshooting systems across both domestic and international testing laboratories.
  • Defining test system specifications in partnership with New Product Development.
  • Implementing sensor technologies, data acquisition, and motion control systems.
  • Designing electrical panel wiring and layouts for automated testing systems.
  • Producing system documentation, including software architecture maps, bills of materials (BOM), and operational guidelines.
  • Collaborating with vendors for the procurement of BOM materials, cost estimation, and scheduling.
  • Assessing project risks, including but not limited to: Cost, Schedule, Procurement, Design, and Safety.
  • Prioritizing and managing multiple projects while adhering to timelines in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
  • Working with fellow engineers on technical solutions across both domestic and international laboratories.
  • Maintaining technical expertise and staying updated with technological advancements.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in mechatronic system software development using programming languages such as LabVIEW, Python, and PLC ladder logic.
  • Familiarity with testing and measurement techniques, including sensor technologies, signal conditioning, data acquisition (utilizing NI cDAQ and NI cRIO), and uncertainty calculations.
  • LabVIEW certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of SQL database design, SQL queries, and Microsoft SQL Server.
  • Experience with software source control (GIT, Azure DevOps preferred).
  • Strong analytical and reasoning abilities with a knack for visualizing processes and outcomes.
  • Proficiency in creating and interpreting electrical schematics - SolidWorks Electrical experience is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel internationally (less than 10%).
