Position Overview

Oversees the management of the Law Library, ensuring efficient operations while contributing to financial oversight, budget management, and collection enhancement. This role involves the formulation of policies and procedures and participation in strategic planning initiatives. Additionally, the position directs technology and system functionalities and provides comprehensive reference assistance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage system-wide library operations and support various service areas.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance library services.
  • Assist in long-term strategic planning for library development.
  • Prepare budget proposals and monitor financial activities for the law library and associated county departments.
  • Supervise library staff, including training, assigning tasks, conducting performance evaluations, and providing guidance.
  • Compile various reports and maintain records related to contracts, including correspondence and amendments.
  • Oversee the upkeep of the library collection, including the addition of new materials, filing, withdrawal of outdated items, and the repair or replacement of damaged resources.
  • Assist patrons with reference inquiries and ensure quality service delivery.
  • Manage cash and credit transactions, ensuring accurate reconciliation.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in Library Science from an A.L.A. accredited institution is required. A minimum of two years of relevant experience, including at least one year in a supervisory capacity, is necessary. Proficiency in legal research is essential.

Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required, along with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, departments, and the public. Familiarity with online database searches, legal resources, and bibliographic tools is expected. Supervisory experience is preferred. Physical requirements include the ability to lift materials up to 25 lbs., reach high shelves, and bend for lower shelves, as well as the capability to read fine print.
