Position Overview:

McGuireWoods is seeking a knowledgeable Legal Research Specialist to join our team. The Specialist will deliver comprehensive research and reference support to our attorneys and staff. The ideal candidate should possess three to five years of research expertise within a legal firm setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts intricate legal and non-legal research and reference services for clients, attorneys, and staff across various offices.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge and proficiency in utilizing legal and non-legal information retrieval systems.
  • Exhibits independent judgment and discretion in selecting information sources, research methodologies, and document delivery methods when addressing reference and research inquiries.
  • Provides immediate reference services during designated hours and as required.
  • Develops tailored, custom current awareness and litigation alerts upon request.
  • Engages in and facilitates the orientation and training of new attorneys and staff as needed.
Qualifications:
  • A Master's degree in Library and Information Sciences from an ALA accredited institution is required.
  • Preferred experience of 3-5 years as a professional research analyst or law librarian.
  • Must possess knowledge of legal bibliography, legal research, and computer-assisted legal research.
  • Advanced proficiency in Westlaw, Lexis, and other computer-assisted research tools is essential.
