Transportation Operations Supervisor

The Transportation Operations Supervisor directly reports to the General Manager, ensuring the smooth execution of daily operations. This includes, but is not limited to, route oversight, staff and operator management, effective communication with both internal and external stakeholders, and coaching employees to achieve optimal performance. The supervisor will manage the entire operation in the absence of the General Manager, ensuring compliance with all company policies and maintaining operations within the designated budgetary framework.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervises daily activities of all operators and coordinates the efforts of supervisors and dispatch personnel.
  • Oversees operator scheduling; monitors operations and collaborates with superiors to ensure service delivery.
  • Works closely with the maintenance department to guarantee that all operational service requirements are fulfilled.
  • Tracks, compiles, and analyzes performance metrics; addresses interdepartmental issues; resolves employee concerns and grievances; enhances processes and route scheduling.
  • Makes hiring decisions for authorized positions; assesses staff performance; ensures timely and efficient completion of all assigned tasks.
  • Assists in accident and incident investigations, providing necessary on-site support to safety and training personnel.
  • Collaborates with the safety and training department to ensure all safety objectives and directives are achieved.
  • Develops the Operations department budget.
  • May operate a vehicle in revenue service if required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, is required.
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver's License with Passenger endorsement and Air brake endorsement is required or the ability to obtain one.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant supervisory experience in transit is required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of transit system regulations and operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and relevant database applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and execute work efficiently; keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with labor, which may include handling grievances and negotiations.
  • Subject to a DOT physical examination and DOT drug testing. Compliance with DOT Regulation 49 CFR Part 40 is mandatory.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to work shifts or flexible schedules as necessary.
  • The employee is generally required to spend long periods sitting, typing, or viewing a computer screen.
