Position Summary:

The Rail Operations Coordinator will support the Rail Manager in overseeing the flow of materials from production to rail and commercial distribution. This role focuses on optimizing material movement to enhance profitability while considering plant capabilities, product specifications, schedules, inventory levels, logistics, and service areas. The Coordinator will also ensure that product availability meets customer demands, minimize costs, and maximize profit margins by collaborating with sales forecasts and production schedules alongside the commercial team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Relationship Management: Develop a comprehensive understanding of Shelly's business strategy and foster strong relationships across various departments.
  • Production Understanding: Gain insight into the production capabilities and flexibility of our plants, including aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mix.
  • Logistics Coordination: Comprehend rail logistics and the cost implications of rail services.
  • Data Management: Assist in the compilation and analysis of data for weekly rail performance reports.
  • Inventory Oversight: Monitor current and future inventory levels and coordinate with sales and operations to address product requirements.
  • Scheduling: Collaborate with sales and operations teams to maintain accurate short- and long-term customer schedules.
  • Sourcing Management: Oversee daily sourcing activities for rail, plants, and customers in conjunction with the material orders team.
  • Customer Engagement: Build and maintain robust relationships with key rail customers to ensure Shelly is their preferred supplier.
  • Performance Enhancement: Identify and implement changes to maximize profitability, focusing on sourcing, scheduling, and account management.
  • Communication: Regularly review operational metrics with sales and operations teams to improve accuracy and address potential conflicts.
  • Order Management: Oversee material orders and dispatch functions, ensuring effective communication of any changes to schedules.
  • Team Coordination: Facilitate meetings between operations and sales teams to ensure alignment on objectives.
  • Cost Improvement: Propose and implement strategies for cost reduction and profit enhancement.
  • Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, candidates should possess:
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and solve practical problems.
  • Physical ability to meet job demands, including lifting and moving materials.
