Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Building Automation Technician to join our team at Old Dominion University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical expertise to efficiently manage modern "Smart Buildings" and optimize energy efficiency in campus facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical expertise to manage Smart Buildings and optimize energy efficiency
  • Work closely with the HVAC supervisor and maintenance shops
  • Operate, maintain, and repair institutional HVAC equipment, including chillers, boilers, air handlers, and cooling towers
  • Program DDC controllers with DOS-based line programming and digital management software
  • Integrate Lon Network Controllers with Niagara Java application control engine (JACE)
  • Troubleshoot system faults and provide repair solutions using digital meters, pressure gauges, temperature probes, and flow meters
  • Review HVAC equipment for optimum energy strategies
  • Read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, including control drawings, electronic schematics, electrical diagrams, and construction drawings
Requirements
  • Considerable knowledge of operation, maintenance, and repair of institutional HVAC equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of commissioning/retro-commissioning procedures
  • Some knowledge of integration of Lon Network Controllers with Niagara Java application control engine (JACE)
  • Some knowledge of energy conservation principles
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient skill in the use of Microsoft Office software and database-related software
  • Basic network configuration skills
  • Valid driver's license and insurable driving record
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification in building automation/controls
  • Master's Mechanical license
  • Extensive experience in creating and updating system level graphics for the campus BMS system
  • Extensive experience with at least five projects involving commissioning/retro-commissioning of buildings or other expertise with energy conservation techniques
  • Extensive understanding of Siemens Insight Programming in a large institutional setting
  • Working experience with some type of CAD program
  • Some experience working with a computerized maintenance management system to track work orders, labor, and materials used

Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to working during university closings.
