Position Title: Continuous Improvement Process Engineer - Special Projects

Department: Production

Reporting Line: Operations Manager

General Summary:

The Continuous Improvement Process Engineer is tasked with the design, detailing, and execution of continuous improvement initiatives and new projects/equipment integration into production utilizing lean manufacturing methodologies. This role requires collaboration with design, maintenance, and production teams, leveraging advanced knowledge of contemporary design trends and engineering software to drive progress. The position is situated within the North Aurora Manufacturing Campus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and uphold comprehensive product labor standards, engaging with all departments at the product design level to ensure production viability.
  • Manage special projects from initial estimation through to successful implementation.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination of project modifications to uphold effective relationships both internally and externally.
  • Act as a liaison between team members and management across functional areas.
  • Assess current manufacturing processes, proposing and executing cost-reduction strategies for ongoing improvements.
  • Determine optimal line balancing to enhance human resource efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Calculate staffing needs for designated manufacturing lines.
  • Justify the acquisition of new equipment or alterations in production methodologies.
  • Develop facility and spatial layouts for all office and production equipment, including functional utility requirements, while implementing cost-saving initiatives.
  • Incorporate ergonomic principles into the design of office and production workstations.
  • Analyze and formulate standards, processes, and work instructions for both direct and indirect labor.
  • Ensure compliance of manufacturing processes, equipment, and products with safety regulations and legal standards.
  • Maintain documentation for the complete scope of each project.

Core Competencies:

  • Exceptional project management and customer service capabilities.
  • Familiarity with Visual ERP software is preferred, though experience with any ERP system is acceptable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Autodesk 2D/Fusion 360/3D Drafting.
  • Skilled in value stream mapping and optimization.
  • Proactive approach in daily tasks.
  • Strong sense of pride in work quality.
  • Demonstrated urgency in task completion.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a customer-focused mindset.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is a plus, but not mandatory.

Educational and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, preferably mechanical or industrial.
  • Minimum of 3 years of project management experience, PMP certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge of the construction and manufacturing sectors.
  • Lean manufacturing certification at the green belt level or higher is preferred.
  • OSHA 10-hour certification is an advantage.

This position typically follows a schedule of Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm. Overtime and extended hours may be necessary based on project demands. The individual in this role will alternate between office and production floor environments daily, adhering to company safety standards regarding required personal protective equipment.
