Job Overview

The Soil Project Engineer at Preston Companies is responsible for evaluating current project data to identify soil export and disposal alternatives. This role involves obtaining additional soil samples, securing landfill approvals, and managing the transportation and disposal of soil for our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare proposals, purchase orders, and preliminary contracts for review
  • Examine all client invoices and associated costs in the financial systems
  • Assess project statuses and make necessary adjustments in collaboration with the Operations Manager
  • Analyze billing forecasts for assigned projects
  • Review existing documentation, including geotechnical assessments and environmental site evaluations
  • Evaluate analytical data against various environmental screening criteria
  • Assess geotechnical soil property specifications
  • Develop sampling plans to facilitate soil export approvals
  • Communicate sampling plans and testing requirements to technicians and clients
  • Coordinate field modifications to sampling plans with relevant personnel
  • Engage with laboratories regarding unique sample results and potential issues
  • Recommend follow-up testing methods for landfill or clean fill site approvals
  • Submit soil approval documentation to landfills and clean fill sites
  • Provide contaminated soil profiles as necessary for hazardous material assessments
  • Maintain communication with approvers to ensure timely export soil approvals
  • Verify contamination removal in the field and document findings for review
  • Collaborate with the Operations Manager and technicians to ensure soil export compliance
  • Work with technicians to establish and approve transportation routes and staging areas
  • Assist in managing manifests and soil acceptance documentation for client compliance
  • Train technicians on all relevant job functions
  • Partner with project technicians and the Operations Manager to conduct SWPPP inspections and reporting
  • Assist in collecting required stormwater samples under supervision
  • Compile and write all necessary reports for regulatory compliance.

  • Excellent writing capabilities
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and Bluebeam
  • Meticulous attention to detail in data analysis
  • Familiarity with soil properties
