About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Ports and Marine Terminals practice in the US West region. As the US West Regional Lead, Port and Marine Terminals, you will be responsible for driving business growth, developing strategic plans, and leading project pursuits and client relationship management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to drive business growth and expansion in the US West region.
  • Lead project pursuits and client relationship management, working closely with marketing teams to secure new clients and projects.
  • Direct contract negotiations with clients and consultants, and review and approve fee proposals.
  • Lead project kick-off workshops to ensure plans are in place for revenue and quality targets.
  • Oversee the overall performance of projects, including service, revenue, and quality.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, monitoring client satisfaction and taking corrective action when needed.
  • Serve as the project manager and project engineer, overseeing other project managers and providing timely feedback.
  • Contribute to the completion of plans and specifications for the construction, renovation, or improvement of marine structures and port facilities.
  • Ensure the coordination of engineering activities for various local or out-of-region port projects.
  • Develop and maintain expertise and methodologies internally, including design, technical, and quality standards.
  • Resolve conflicts among project teams and make final decisions when needed.
  • Reward project teams and mentor to create a strong bench depth.
  • Work collaboratively with office and operational leadership to achieve effective staffing that supports client and project needs.
  • Lead the recruitment of new Ports and Marine Terminals staff and contribute to performance reviews of existing staff.
  • Recommend proposed project teams and approve the removal of non-performers from projects.
  • Act as an internal and external ambassador for the firm.
  • Ensure the financial performance of projects, including A/R collections.
  • Engage with peer teams in Ports and Marine Terminals across the organization on projects requiring design skills to support a positive learning curve for project delivery, project management, and understanding Stantec's model.
  • Engage with Ports and Marine Terminals sector leadership across Stantec.
  • Support teams in various office locations as skills and talent permit.
Outreach
  • Identify opportunities for industry and community outreach.
  • Partner with the marketing team to develop regional campaigns around the Ports and Marine Terminals sector for Stantec brand recognition through presentations, speaking opportunities, papers, public relations, awards, and more.
  • Contribute to and support Stantec's client satisfaction/survey program.
  • Monitor and advise on market trends across the Pacific Coast.
  • Solicit and facilitate the sharing of industry knowledge.
Leadership
  • Identify, recommend, and advocate for resources and strategies needed to meet business goals.
  • Identify training and professional development opportunities.
Resource Gaps
  • Strategic partnering with clients, developers, and consultants.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Strong understanding of the market in the western states.
  • Experience with responding to Requests for Proposals, Expression of Interests, and Statement of Qualifications.
  • Demonstrated technical skills on major projects and marine structures, including wharves, piers, and jetties.
  • Strong business development skills, including significant experience building and maintaining productive relationships with a client base.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • An entrepreneurial orientation with a strong understanding of business development challenges in a consulting-services provider.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organization, coordination, and leadership skills.
  • Proven success in developing new clients and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Familiarity with industry trends and industry leaders along the Pacific Coast.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license required.
Education and Experience
  • Degree in Engineering with professional engineering registration/license.
  • 10+ years of experience in port and marine terminals design working with multidiscipline teams on a wide variety of Ports and Marine Terminals projects, including marine structures.
