This Role

WSP is actively seeking a full-time Senior Geotechnical Engineering Leader for our office. The selected candidate will participate in projects with our Earth & Environment Team and contribute to a growing organization that fulfills client objectives and resolves their challenges.

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, the chosen candidates will deliver expert technical support and leadership for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, enhancement, and construction projects across both public and private sectors. Key responsibilities encompass research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of foundations, retention structures, open pit and underground mines, tunnels, dams, and underground storage. You will provide situational guidance to project managers and leaders, ensuring that documentation and recommendations accurately reflect and address risks, innovations, and future-ready opportunities. • Utilize advanced geotechnical and geological engineering techniques to identify enhancements for various project phases involving complex infrastructure and engineering tasks, including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation.
  • Conduct comprehensive investigations and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil and rock foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, slope stability, and operations to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and standards.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update layout plans requiring coordination with clients, other disciplines, and sub-consultants.
  • Manage design and construction of infrastructure projects from proposal to completion, including rehabilitation, reconstruction, grading, drainage, and installation of foundations and retaining structures.
  • Lead the implementation of advanced technologies, monitoring devices, building materials, modeling techniques, and operating strategies to ensure safety and functionality for end-users and transportation systems.
  • Supervise larger-scale geotechnical engineering projects, ensuring contributors understand their responsibilities and timelines, preparing and monitoring project budgets, and overseeing subcontractors and employees.
  • Assist with the engineering review of permit applications, design plans, and specifications to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and sound engineering practices.
  • Engage with various public and private entities to discuss engineering and construction challenges and programs.
  • Ensure technical reports and presentations effectively communicate research findings and recommendations to address design and construction issues.
  • Develop a client base for high-level geotechnical engineering services and identify additional business development opportunities.
  • Mentor staff to foster their growth and professional development.
  • Stay current with the latest geotechnical engineering techniques and practices.
  • Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines on federally, state, regionally, and locally funded improvement and development projects.
  • Exercise ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
