Position Summary:

Work Schedule:
Various rotating shift schedules with breaks available as production allows.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate a cab-controlled traveling crane to lift, move, and position scrap materials from railcars to the ground and vice versa.
- Unload materials for processing by Hand Burners.
- Load scrap buckets while visually monitoring the weight of scrap in each bucket as necessary.
- Conduct inspections of scrap during loading operations.
- Manipulate crane controls, including pedals and levers, to manage the speed and direction of crane and hoist movements.
- Inspect the crane for any defective components and report issues to the supervisor.
- Operate mobile equipment as required.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers using two-way radios and hand signals.
- Assist maintenance teams with cleaning tasks during downtime.
Work Environment:
Primarily outdoor work, with approximately 80% of time spent inside the crane cab and 20% outside for cleaning and maintenance of pits and transfer cars.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- 1 to 3 years of experience as a crane or heavy equipment operator is preferred.
- Ability to work in a steel mill environment, which may involve exposure to dust, extreme weather conditions, and uneven surfaces.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to comprehend operating instructions.
Physical Requirements:
- Capability to climb stairs and ladders, reach, squat, and maintain prolonged standing or walking.
- Ability to bend from the trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push, and pull objects.
- Lift various objects of different dimensions and weights.
- Endure whole-body vibration and operate hand controls with both hands.
- Use foot pedals with both feet and perform sustained overhead reaching occasionally.
- Tolerate extreme temperatures ranging from 0°F to 130°F.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights, as well as adapt to swing shift schedules.
- Work in environments where noise levels may reach 120 decibels.
