Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Overhead Crane Operator to join our team at Enviri Corporation. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating our overhead cranes to move scrap material within our steel mill environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate cab-controlled overhead cranes to lift, move, and position scrap material from railcars to the ground and vice versa.
  • Offload material for hand burners to process.
  • Load scrap buckets and monitor the weight of scrap placed in each bucket.
  • Responsible for scrap inspection as it is being loaded.
  • Manipulate or depress crane controls to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement.
  • Inspect crane for defective parts and notify supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
  • Operate mobile equipment as needed.
  • Communicate and direct co-workers through two-way radio and hand signals.
  • Assist maintenance with cleaning on down days.

Work Environment:

Our steel mill environment can be challenging, with dust and extreme weather conditions. You will be working outdoors 100% of the time, with 80% of that time spent inside the cab of the crane and 20% spent outside cleaning pits and transfer cars.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years' experience as a crane/heavy equipment operator is preferred.
  • Ability to work in a steel mill environment, which may include dust and extreme weather conditions, and uneven surfaces.
  • Good communications skills, and the ability to read operating instructions.

Physical Requirements:

You will need to be able to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach, squat, tolerate prolonged standing/walking, balance, bend from trunk, operate mobile equipment, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects, reach, squat, and tolerate prolonged sitting. You will also need to be able to lift objects of various dimensions and weights, tolerate whole body vibration, operate hand controls with both hands, operate foot pedals with both feet, and perform sustained overhead reaching on an occasional basis.
